Tribute to pioneering Australians, in particular returned soldier George Edwin Tranter who once owned our lands. First made in 2008, this medium to full-bodied shiraz showcases Heathcote’s trademark minerality, depth of flavour, intensity, structure and complexity. Will cellar 10-15 years.

Tasting Notes

Block 3 and Block 2 of our Tellurian vineyard growing in Cambrian soils

formed over 500 million-years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigour and yield.

2014 season started with good winter rainfall followed by a dryer than average spring. Despite the lack of rain, vine growth was good and thanks to the fine weather, good fruit set. Hot weather in January and February accelerated ripening, which started slightly ahead of normal.

100% de-stemmed, Batches fermented separately in open top stainless steel and 2 year-old 5000L French Oak; stayed on skins for 25 to 49 days, hand plunging or pump overs daily. Maturated separately for over 15 months prior to blending in 90% French and 10% American oak; mix of large format puncheons, hogsheads and demi muids and smaller barriques.

Bright crimson. Intense aromas of dark plum and blackberry combine with sweet vanilla bean, spice and a flinty, savoury edge. Complex dark fruits and spice combine with fine grained tannins, lovely texture. Exceptional length.
