Tasting Notes

WINEMAKER NOTES
Plum red in colour. Lively aromas of spice and plum combine with a slightly savoury edge. Vibrant palate shows ripe damson plum, medium bodied weight with fine dusty tannins providing good length. Approachable now, but expected to gain in complexity over the next 3-5 years.

VINEYARD
All fruit was selected from our Tellurian vineyard growing in Cambrian soils formed over 500 million years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigour and yield.

VINTAGE
Close to ideal growing conditions in 2015 resulted in intense and full flavoured fruit retaining wonderful natural acidity. Characterised by constant warm weather, there were no significant heatwaves, for the first time in many years. Though the entire growing season was relatively dry, January rains provided much needed soil moisture allowing for perfect ripening conditions.

WINEMAKING
The mourvèdre grapes were hand picked on 2nd March and fermented on skins for 12 days in small open top fermenters with hand plunging or pump overs once to twice per day. The wine was matured in seasoned French oak barriques for 10 months prior to filtration and bottling.
