Tasting Notes

WINEMAKER NOTES
Bright crimson. Intense aromas of dark plum and blackberry combine with sweet vanilla bean, spice and a flinty, savoury edge. Complex dark fruits and spice combine with fine grained tannins, lovely texture. Exceptional length.

VINEYARD
Block 3 our Tellurian vineyard growing in Cambrian soils formed over 500 million-years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigour and yield.

VINTAGE

2016 provided ideal conditions for intense, full flavoured fruit retaining wonderful natural acidity. Whilst the entire season was relatively dry, good shoot growth and flowering was achieved followed by even fruit set in all varieties. Above average overnight summer temperatures and lower than average yields, led to faster ripening and our earliest vintage to date.

WINEMAKING
100% de-stemmed, batches fermented separately in open top stainless steel, concrete (stainless steel lined) and 4 year-old 5000L French Oak; on skins for 16 to 26 days, hand plunging or pump overs daily. Batches maturated separately for 18 months prior to blending and bottling,  in mostly large format French oak puncheons, demi muids and barriques, and a small portion of American oak barriques.
